Special functions of Area 33 offer opportunities for shared experience, education, and unity in carrying out our primary purpose. Each function is guided by established procedures and conducted in the spirit of the 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts.
GSR Workshops
Area 33 will host a GSR Workshop for any District requesting it through the Alternate Delegate who will coordinate, schedule and present the GSR Workshop at the requesting District’s designated location.
DCM College
The Area Registrar will host this event annually in order to educate Districts on how they can work to fulfill their primary purpose. This may include speakers or panels to support effective service learning and cooperation with Area Standing Committees.
Professional Event
The Professional Event is a collaboration with the Public Information, CPC, Corrections, and Treatment Committees who plan and facilitate an annual event for the professional community. For more information or to volunteer, contact a relevant committee chair.
Conventions
Our conventions provide opportunities for connection, growth, and service beyond the Group level. These gatherings bring together members from across our fellowship to share experience, strength, and hope through meetings, panels, and fellowship activities. Each event—such as the March Roundup and the Michigan State Convention— supports our unity and recovery while strengthening our commitment to service. Area 33 conventions are conducted in keeping with established guidelines and the spirit of AA Traditions and Concepts.
March Roundup
The March Roundup is held every March, traditionally on the weekend in March in which the last day of the convention will fall on the second Sunday of the month. The March Roundup is a local convention with A.A., Al-Anon & Alateen activities, i.e. – open speakers, topic panels, alkathons, banquet dinner, dance, etc. The work of the March Roundup Committee is outlined in its Committee Guidelines.
Michigan State Convention
The Michigan State Convention is a combined effort and rotates among Areas 32, 33 and 34 thus Area 33 hosts every third year. It includes A.A., Al-Anon & Alateen activities, i.e. – open speakers, topic panels, alkathons, banquet, dance, etc. This event is chaired by a past delegate. See the Statewide General Service Committee Website (aamichiganstatewide.com) for a written set of guidelines for this convention.
