Area officers strive to conduct Area business in the spirit of the 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts. The chair has the discretion to relax the procedures or apply them more or less rigidly as may be deemed appropriate for an informed group conscience.
Regular Assembly Business Meetings
When
The Area 33 Assembly is held monthly, on a Sunday, at 12:00 noon. Area Assembly meetings are preceded by an 11:30am lunch.
The Area 33 Assembly does not follow a predictable schedule (such as the 2nd Sunday of every month) in order to accommodate holidays, such as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.

Where
Assembly meetings will take place at Madison High School, 915 E. 11 Mile Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071. If a hybrid option is available, attendees wishing to join us virtually can find details on the Area website.
Hosts
Districts rotate the responsibility of hosting the Area Assembly lunch. Each month, the hosting District is responsible for making coffee, providing lunch and snacks, and cleaning up. The Area reimburses a fixed, budgeted amount for the lunch, if requested.
District Committee Members (DCMs) should coordinate with the Area Chairperson to confirm their participation on the lunch hosting rotation and receive current guidance about dietary accommodations, food quantities, etc.

Special Assembly Business Meetings
April – Pre-Conference
All business is normally suspended during April of each year, in lieu of Pre-Conference activities. This event is coordinated by the Alternate Delegate in order to inform the Area of pending agenda items before the year’s General Service Conference.
September – Service Fair
All business is normally suspended in September of each year in lieu of the Service Fair. This event is coordinated by the Alternate Delegate in order to broaden understanding of service at the Committee level and beyond.
October – Election Assembly
Elections are held annually in October. In the odd numbered years, we elect Committee Chairs for the Standing Committees, as well as Liaisons for Intergroups/Central Offices and YPAA with terms beginning January 1. In the even numbered years, we elect Area 33 Officers. See the voting section of this document for more details. All business is normally suspended in lieu of the October elections.
