The Delegate is the vital link between Area 33 and the General Service Conference (GSC), representing the Area’s group conscience. They participate fully in the Conference, report its results to the Fellowship, and keep the Area informed of A.A. developments through A.A. World Services (A.A.W.S.) and the Grapevine. The Delegate is an ex officio member of every Area 33 Standing Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare for and attend the annual General Service Conference.
- Communicate information from the GSC, General Service Board, A.A.W.S., and Grapevine to the Area, Districts, and Groups.
- Provide insight into the 12 Traditions and Concepts, and help Districts apply them in service discussions.
- Encourage understanding of A.A.’s financial structure and support self-sufficiency at all levels.
- Attend Area assemblies, regional and statewide events.
- Maintain close contact with the Alternate Delegate and mentor the Delegate-elect for a smooth transition.
Immediate past delegates are encouraged to take a year off before assuming other service roles, then may serve on committees such as Finance or statewide service roles while continuing to attend Area events as a resource.
Recommended minimum sobriety: 5–6 years.
